Liz. People call me Mitch, Mitchie, and Libby (by my nanas). If I ever get called Elizabeth, I know I\u2019m in big trouble!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n I live in K\u0101piti with my husband, three young sons, two big dogs, and my cat. It\u2019s a busy household, but I wouldn\u2019t have it any other way; well maybe a bigger house might help actually.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n I started up the construction division<\/a> of Archway almost five years ago now.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n There are now three of us on the team across New Zealand so my primary focus is Wellington and the Lower North Island now.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n I love the construction industry, it\u2019s ever-changing, and not too PC and I love seeing how a team of people can make a building go up.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n I\u2019m fortunate enough to choose the clients and candidates I work with based on similar work ethics and I work on a quality rather than quantity approach, taking the time for the consultative piece of my job which I love.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n When I\u2019m not working, I\u2019m hanging out with my boys, playing mum taxi, and taking them to various activities<\/span>. I also<\/span> love <\/span>spending time with friends<\/span> and extended family where a few glasses of wine are usually involved.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n 20<\/p>\n Less a funny story and more odd. <\/span>I had a Site Manager come into the office as a walk-in interview.<\/span><\/p>\n The guy wouldn\u2019t tell me which company he currently worked for, his current salary or salary expectations or any other pertinent information, so I could find him a new role; but he couldn\u2019t understand why I wanted to know. He told me he was entitled to his privacy (remembering this guy came to me looking for assistance).<\/span><\/p>\n This was in the days before LinkedIn and other social media (yes I have been in recruitment for that long) so I couldn\u2019t check anything about him.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Needless to say, he wasn\u2019t placed in a new role through me. I wonder what he\u2019s up to now.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n When looking at a new company, think about what\u2019s really important, money pays the bills, yes, but we spend a large portion of our lives at work, think about the culture, the learning opportunities, and the social side, not just how much they will pay you. It\u2019s about balance.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n If you like someone you\u2019re interviewing, let them know at the time. Candidates are nervous and it really does help if they know during the process that they\u2019re doing well.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n You\u2019ll find they relax more and you can have a more meaningful conversation<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n As a kid, I wanted to be a vet but as I got older, I wanted to be a clinical psychologist working in high-security prisons to find out why people committed the crimes they did!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Not sure what that says about me?!?!\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Making vegan baking taste like regular baking, no one ever knows the difference!!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Bond 007! All the travel, cool gadgets, cool cars and beautiful people.
