Olivia recently joined Archway as a Principal Consultant in our corporate team. With a background in senior finance, payroll, and business support recruitment, she brings a thoughtful and people-focused approach to her work. Olivia enjoys partnering with clients across the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors to help build strong, capable teams. Get to know Olivia a little more below:

Let’s start with the basics

My name is Olivia, but most people call me Liv or Olive. I’m based in Wellington.

I was born in the UK and grew up in Tauranga, where I went to high school and where my family still lives. I moved to Wellington to study a BA and LLB at Victoria University — and never left. I also have an amazing furry friend, Rosie the cat, who turned up as a surprise 18th birthday gift from a friend!

What do you do at Archway Recruitment?

I’m a Principal Consultant specialising in business support and corporate recruitment. I work alongside the incredible Tracey Bevan, who is a true expert in her field. I meet with prospective candidates and clients across the marketing, HR, office administration, property, and procurement space.

What do you get up to outside of work?

I love painting and drawing, though that’s not to say I’m good at it! I enjoy catching up with friends, trying new stouts and bourbons and heading out for a boogie. I can also absolutely smash a quiz night.

How many candidates do you interview a month?

Between 25-30 candidates each month.

Most unexpected role you’ve ever recruited for?

While working on a senior finance desk, I met an incredible candidate with a standout personality and skillset, but completely outside of my area. Long story short, I ended up placing a butcher at Pak’nSave! Super interesting to learn about job specifications that were not in my space.

What’s the one piece of advice you’d give to a candidate?

Always prepare for your interviews – whether it’s a quick coffee catch-up, a chat with a recruiter, or a formal meeting. Research the company, think about where you see yourself fitting in, and reflect on what you bring to the table. With the right preparation, an interview can feel like a more natural conversation.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to a hiring manager or client?

Know what you are looking for through and through, before you advertise or start to recruit your role. How does this position fit into your existing team? Is the job description exactly what this person’s day-to-day really looks like? What sort of soft skills does this person need? If we have an accurate brief that reflects what the role does and who you want to do it, it makes our (and your) process so much easier.

A few fun facts

  • Iced lattes only – I absolutely cannot stand warm coffee.
  • My superpower among my friends and family is losing the last thing I just had in my hand. I will find it… it just might take a while.

Which superhero would you be?

I’d be Barbie. Mainly for the outfits and the pink car.

You’re offered a Mackintosh toffee – what flavour are you picking?

I’d choose the pink coconut one, it’s delicious!
